The group stage of the T20 World Cup 2024 has almost come to an end with Australia, India, Afghanistan, South Africa and West Indies progressing to the Super 8 stage urging fans and experts to predict possible finalists of the event.

Former Australian cricketer, Brad Hogg, has predicted an India vs Australia final at the Kensington Oval, Barbados on June 29.

"In the Super 8s, Australia and India have got Bangladesh (yet to qualify) and Afghanistan and you expect both teams to beat Afghanistan and Bangladesh and move through to the semi-finals, hopefully, that does happen. It sets it up for the possibility of Australia and India in a grand final which I’d absolutely love to happen,” Hogg said while talking on an Indian sports channel.

Hogg also added that Australia will have an advantage over India in their Super 8 encounter in St. Lucia because the Kangaroos have been playing their matches in the West Indies whereas India has mastered the USA pitches.

"That first game between Australia and India in the super eights, the advantage would have to be to Australia because they’ve been playing in the West Indies where it’s been difficult, it’s been slow. Whereas the Indian team has been playing in New York where there’s been some seam movement, the batters haven’t been able to get their rhythm and also they’re coming from IPL where they were playing on a lot of flat wickets,” Hogg concluded.

Australia and India have been undefeated in the T20 World Cup and sit at the top of their respective groups’ points table. Australia defeated Oman, England and Namibia while India defeated Ireland, Pakistan and the USA.

Both of the teams have one more match to play in the group stage. India will play against Canada and Australia will play against Scotland on June 15.
